SATTARJHODA, SUNSARI DISTRICT- Cadres of CPN Maoists party thrashed Dalit villagers in Sattarjhoda, Sunsari, while in cause of building a road. Infuriated, more than 300 villagers and Dalits surrounded the District Police Office in Inwarwa asking for legal action against the culprits and compensation for the damage done.
A group of 15 Maoists cadres entered the village at night and thrashed them severely. The injured are getting medical treatment at District Hospital in Inwarwa.
"It is not that we were beaten in case of building a road, they want to displace us from the village because we are from the Dalit community”, said Naresh Mochi, one of the thrashed Dalit. The dalit do not have enough money to go and settle elsewhere.
After receiving pressure from the villagers, the Police arrested two Maoists cadres, Rajaram Yadav and Jaykrishna Goit. The DPO informed that they are in pursuit of the other culprits.
The victims threatened of organizing several protests if the case is not seriously addressed by the state. However, Maoists in charge of area number 3 informed the press that they had no hand in the incident. He added that the Dalit villagers were thrashed by some other people, using name of the Maoists.
