Regmi on untouchability

Regmi on untouchability KATHMANDU, JUN 04 - Chairman of the Interim Election Government Khil Raj Regmi on Monday pledged to strengthen government mechanisms to put an end to untouchability in the country. In a message on the eve of the anniversary of the day the government declared Nepal an ‘untouchability free state’ in 2006, Regmi said the growing civic sense and protection from the constitution and the laws have helped lessen cases of untouchability. He said the government will do its best to stop the practice. Regmi also drew the attention of the political parties, civil society, media and other stakeholders to maintaining a zero tolerance on caste-based discrimination and untouchability.
